  • When using a heat pump tariff, there may be a block period when the heat pump is not running. This lockout period is called the EVU block.

  • EVU is an abbreviation for Energieversorgungsunternehmen (energy supplier).

  • This shutdown for a short period of time relieves the power grid during peak periods.

  • However, it depends on the grid operator how long the lockout is imposed or when it occurs. This can vary from grid operator to grid operator.

  • The legislator has set up limits for EVU block so you as a consumer are protected from longer outages. Thus, heating can be shut off for a maximum of 6 hours a day for heating systems. However, individual blocking periods are limited to a maximum of 2 hours and then take place a maximum of 3 times a day. It is usual to divide them between morning, midday and evening. In other words, at the times when the power grids are under particularly heavy load due to high consumption levels.

  • The EVU block is not harmful to the heat pump and the rest of the heating system.

  • Currently, no EVU blocking is carried out for our contracts.
