How does the Virtual Power Plant NeoGrid® work?

A Virtual Power Plant (VPP) connects flexible, decentralized energy assets—such as EV batteries, home storage systems, or heat pumps—into a single power plant via software. This allows these assets to be controlled as a group: electricity can be jointly bought or sold on energy markets, and the power grid can be actively supported.

As a thank you for your support, you receive NeoGrid® Credits, allowing you to save up to 60% compared to non-optimized usage.

NeoGrid® AI for EVs

Your car doesn’t just charge “at some point,” but preferably when plenty of electricity is available in the grid (e.g., lots of wind or solar power, or low demand). At these times, market prices are lower and the grid is supported.

Grid-friendly charging with NeoGrid® AI

To actively support the power grid, NeoGrid® AI uses real-time prices. These differ from the dynamic prices used, for example, in the SimplyDynamic tariff. Real-time prices reflect the current state of the power grid—how much electricity is available and how high demand is.

  • When the grid is under heavy load, such as during high demand combined with limited supply (for example lower renewable energy generation), real-time prices are higher. This signals that electricity consumption should ideally be shifted to a later time.

  • When electricity supply is high, for example due to strong renewable energy generation combined with low demand, real-time prices are lower. This shifts consumption to times when the grid can absorb it particularly well.

Your electricity price stays the same

Even though NeoGrid® AI works with different prices, the price you pay for your electricity remains the one defined in your tariff. You can still save money—through NeoGrid® Credits, which are credited to you for supporting the power grid.

What NeoGrid® AI actually does

During your charging window, NeoGrid® AI continuously reacts to second-by-second changes in real-time prices. It constantly adjusts your car’s charging plan, buys electricity at favorable times, and sells it again when needed—always aiming to keep real-time prices as low as possible and thus to support the power grid as much as possible.

Why you receive credits

By optimizing with real-time prices, electricity can be procured more cost-effectively overall. These savings are converted into your NeoGrid® Credits—as a thank you for your contribution to grid stability.
