What are NeoGrid® Credits?

NeoGrid® Credits are a credit you receive as a thank-you for supporting the power grid with your charging and enabling NeoGrid® AI to achieve savings when procuring electricity on the market.

How are savings created through grid support?

To optimally support the power grid, NeoGrid® AI relies on real-time prices that change every second. Unlike the prices in a dynamic tariff, which are fixed the day before, real-time prices react to the current state of the grid and help steer electricity consumption in a targeted way.

  • When the grid is heavily loaded because demand is high while less electricity is available (for example due to lower renewable energy generation), real-time prices rise. This signals that additional consumption should be shifted to other, less strained periods.

  • When plenty of electricity is available in the grid, for example due to high renewable energy generation combined with low demand, real-time prices are lower. Consumption is then steered into these periods, when the grid can absorb it well.

NeoGrid® AI uses these real-time price signals to continuously shift your charging into grid-friendly times.

Savings are created in two ways:

  • First, because electricity is often cheaper on the real-time market during grid-friendly periods than the price in the dynamic tariff.

  • Second, because NeoGrid® AI continuously reacts to price changes. It flexibly shifts charging, buys electricity at favorable times, and sells it again when prices rise. This allows the overall electricity volume to be procured more cost-effectively.

How are NeoGrid® Credits created?

Ostrom procures electricity collectively for all NeoGrid® AI participants. Since NeoGrid® AI trades electricity in 24-hour time windows, we calculate once per day how much cheaper the total electricity volume was procured through real-time optimization.

Put simply, we compare:

  • What would the same amount of electricity have cost if it had been purchased without NeoGrid® AI at the previous day’s prices (i.e. the prices of the SimplyDynamic tariff)?

  • And what did it actually cost after NeoGrid® AI optimized and traded charging in real time throughout the day?

The difference is the saving. 50% of these savings are then distributed as NeoGrid® Credits to all participants, proportionally to how much electricity you charged with NeoGrid® AI during that period.

NeoGrid® Credits terms

1. NeoGrid® AI charging window

As soon as your car is plugged in at home and you activate NeoGrid® AI, your charging window begins. Your car will be charged to the target battery level by the target time you have set. To receive credits, the car must remain plugged in after activating NeoGrid® AI. Unplugging the car after activation will result in no payout.

2. Remote control must be enabled

Please deactivate all charging schedules from third-party or manufacturer apps. To participate in NeoGrid® AI, full remote control and remote access must be enabled. Also check your charger settings, as these can sometimes interfere with remote control.

When and how are NeoGrid® Credits credited?

NeoGrid® AI trades in 24-hour trading windows. For this reason, we settle all achieved savings once per day and distribute them as NeoGrid® Credits to all participants.

Credits are applied every morning at around 10 a.m. for all savings generated through your participation in NeoGrid® AI over the previous 24 hours.

If your set target time is after 10 a.m., the savings achieved up to 10 a.m. are credited immediately. Savings from charging after 10 a.m. are credited the following day.

Why can’t I calculate my credits 1:1 per charging session?

Because procurement and optimization are handled collectively across the NeoGrid® AI community, there is no simple assignment following the principle “this charging session = this saving.”

Your share depends, among other things, on:

  • how much you charge with NeoGrid® AI

  • how high the total savings of the NeoGrid® AI community were during that period

Why do credits fluctuate?

Even if you keep your charging behavior constant, your credits may vary from day to day. This is normal, because savings are not the same every day.

The main reasons are:

  • the deviation between the day-ahead forecast (at which electricity would otherwise have been purchased) and the actual real-time situation, for example due to weather, consumption, or feed-in

  • the strength of fluctuations in real-time prices, which varies depending on grid dynamics

How to receive more credits

  • Charge more with NeoGrid® AI

  • Use larger charging windows
