❓ How is the energy price calculated on my monthly SimplyDynamic invoice?
The energy price per kilowatt-hour (kWh) that you see on your invoice is an average price for the respective month.
🔍 How it’s calculated:
For each hour of the month, the market price (spot market price) is multiplied by your actual consumption during that hour.
These values are then summed for all hours.
In the end, this total is divided by your total consumption for the month.
➡️ This gives you your individual average energy price per kWh for the month.
❓ What is included in the energy price?
The energy price consists of two main components:
Market Price
The price at which electricity is traded on the exchange. This changes hourly.
➡️ You can find current market prices in the graphic below (yellow box).
Taxes & Levies
These are regulated by law and apply to all consumers. They consist of the following:
Component | Description | Typical Value |
Grid Fees | For using the electricity grid; in addition to the base fee (e.g. €8.90/month) | approx. 7–10 ct/kWh |
Concession Levy | Paid to cities/municipalities for electricity lines in public areas | up to 2.39 ct/kWh |
CHP Surcharge (KWKG) | For promoting combined heat and power generation | 0.277 ct/kWh |
§19 StromNEV Surcharge | To support energy-intensive companies | 1.558 ct/kWh |
Offshore Grid Surcharge | For connecting offshore wind farms | 0.816 ct/kWh |
Interruptible Load Levy | Currently suspended (2025) | 0.00 ct/kWh |
Electricity Tax | Government tax on electricity consumption | 2.05 ct/kWh |
VAT (Value Added Tax) | 19% on the total electricity price | – |
❓ What is the final unit price per kWh?
Depending on the grid area and consumption, the unit price is approximately:
Before VAT: approx. 12–14 ct/kWh
After VAT (19%): approx. 18–22 ct/kWh
🕒 Important:
The exact unit price strongly depends on when electricity is consumed throughout the day. Since the spot market price changes every hour, your individual consumption pattern has a direct impact on your final unit price.
You can save money by shifting your consumption to hours with lower electricity prices - especially if you use smart devices such as an EV, charger, battery, heat pump, or other controllable appliances. Using these during cheaper hours lets you take full advantage of the dynamic tariff.
