📈 Why is my electricity price increasing?
Energy market prices have recently risen significantly. The main reason:
→ Higher gas and oil prices in connection with the Iran war. This development affects not only Germany but all of Europe – and directly impacts electricity prices.
→ Electricity prices are set uniformly across the European market. The merit-order principle applies: gas-fired power plants often determine the market price. When gas becomes more expensive, electricity prices increase overall – regardless of how your tariff is structured in detail.

Oil and gas prices: Energy prices moved up sharply after the conflict escalated. Oil prices (Brent) ranged between $100 and $115 per barrel in March after around $69 in February, roughly 92–105 € versus 64 €. Europe's gas benchmark (TTF) also rose from around 32 € / MWh in February to above 50 € / MWh in March. Source, Source, Blog Post - How the Iran Crisis Is Reshaping European Energy Prices

Ceasefire: The 2-week temporary ceasefire has not held and now the US is blockading the Strait of Hormuz since the weekend. This has caused tanker flows to remain way below normal and has caused energy prices to stay at their highs. Source
