π Until June 6th 2025: Switch still follows the old process
Did you sign up with Ostrom before 06.06.2025? Then your switch will still follow the old supplier switching procedure, as the new 24-hour switching process only starts on 06.06.2025. The following still applies to you:
Registrations or cancellations can still be made retroactively for up to 6 weeks β so you can notify us of your move even after moving in or out.
The timeline depends, among other things, on how quickly your current supplier and the grid operator respond.
Your existing minimum contract periods (often 12β24 months) still apply.
Here's an example to better understand the timeline:
01.01.2025: You sign up with Ostrom (before June 6th, 2025)
01.01.2025:
Move-in: We contact your grid operator
Switch: We contact your current electricity provider
01.01.2025 - 14.01.2025:
Move-in: The grid operator registers us as your electricity supplier for your new address β retroactively up to 6 weeks.
Switch: Your current provider checks your termination and contract duration. Once we receive the cancelation confirmation, the grid operator registers us as your new supplier.
Sometimes your current supplier or grid operator responds the same day, but it can unfortunately take up to 14 business days or, in rare cases, even several months. Once we receive a response, your contract will be confirmed.
