🔌 Default supply (Ersatzversorgung):
Default supply starts automatically when you are using electricity but don’t yet have an active contract with a private supplier like Ostrom - for example, right after moving in or when your previous contract ends. It’s provided by your local basic supplier and doesn’t require any action from you, ensuring you always have electricity.
👉 Important: Default supply usually lasts for a maximum of three months. After that, your delivery point can automatically switch to basic supply without prior notice. This switch is managed by your local grid operator and can happen at any time within three months after your move-in. Ostrom cannot influence this process.
Starting from 06.06.2025, retroactive registrations from default supply beyond 42 days are no longer possible due to the new 24-hour supplier switch (LFW24 - check FAQ here). We can only register your supply start for a future date, earliest tomorrow.
🏠 Basic supply (Grundversorgung):
Basic supply is the standard tariff offered by your local basic supplier (Grundversorger). It applies after the default supply period ends or if you actively sign up for it. Unlike default supply, basic supply comes with a 14-day cancellation period, as required by law.
