What does RLM mean?

🔍 What is RLM and how is it different from SLP?

RLM stands for “registering load profile metering” ⚡ – this means your electricity consumption is automatically recorded every 15 minutes. These readings create what’s known as a load profile, showing exactly how much electricity you've used over time – for example, over a month or a year.

This data helps grid operators and electricity suppliers better understand consumption patterns, identify peak loads, and plan the energy supply more efficiently.

📊 RLM vs. SLP – what’s the difference?

By default, most delivery points are billed using SLP, which stands for “standard load profile”. With SLP, your usage is estimated based on typical consumption patterns – there’s no individualized data.

➡️ RLM allows for precise billing based on your actual hourly consumption.

Your metering point operator automatically sends this load profile data to us. At Ostrom, this data is essential for accurate billing, assigning the correct spot market price, and enabling you to use the SimplyDynamic tariff.

🧠 How does RLM metering work technically?

RLM metering is done via a smart metering system (smart meter).
Your usage data is transmitted automatically and regularly – with no manual readings or estimates needed.

🏗 Who switches the meter to RLM?

Whether your meter uses RLM is entirely up to your grid operator.
In most cases, the switch happens automatically based on your consumption or meter type.

Previously, we, as your supplier, had the option to apply for a profile change from SLP to RLM with the responsible grid operator. However, with the new LFW24 regulation, this is no longer applicable.

➡️ Only your grid operator can adjust your metering profile.

🚀 What changes from 06.06.2025?

Thanks to the new 24-hour supplier switch (LFW24), all delivery points with a smart meter will automatically switch to RLM.

What does that mean for you?
✔️ No more profile change requests needed
✔️ Faster activation of the SimplyDynamic tariff
✔️ A faster switch and full transparency over your electricity usage
