FAQ: Solar Power & Ostrom

Written by Jen Tagliafico

šŸ“‰ Why is my meter reading marked as invalid when I have a solar system?

If you installed your solar system after signing your contract, your new meter reading may be flagged as ā€œimplausible.ā€

This happens because your actual consumption is now significantly lower than the originally estimated usage due to your PV system.

šŸ‘‰ Solution:
Please contact us! We’ll check your meter reading and manually validate it for you:

šŸ’” Note for smart meters: If you have a smart meter, you don’t need to enter readings manually. They are sent to us automatically.

šŸ”¢ Can I view meter readings for both grid consumption and feed-in?

Yes. A smart meter is usually a bidirectional meter, measuring both your consumption and your solar feed-in.

  • Register 1.8.0: Power drawn from the grid

  • Register 2.8.0: Power fed into the grid

šŸ’” Tip: On most digital meters, the display switches automatically.
Look for the counter number. Usually to the left or in one corner of the screen.

šŸ” I see two readings, which one should I enter?

A smart meter measures both your consumption and your feed-in.

  • Register 1.8.0: Power drawn from the grid (consumption)

  • Register 2.8.0: Power fed into the grid (feed-in)

For Ostrom, only the grid consumption (Register 1.8.0) is relevant. That’s the value you should submit.

šŸ”‹ Does Ostrom offer a special tariff for solar systems?

Ostrom does not offer a specific feed-in tariff.

Your solar feed-in is not automatically offset against your electricity consumption.

However, our dynamic tariff ā€œSimply Dynamicā€ is perfect for solar households:

  • Purchase power at hourly wholesale prices

  • Adjust your usage to sunny or low-price hours

  • Optimize self-consumption and save on costs

šŸ‘‰ Important: The feed-in payment is still handled by your grid operator, not by Ostrom.

āž”ļø Find more information about our tariffs on our website under Electricity Tariffs.

🧩 Which inverters and brands does Ostrom support?

You can find an up-to-date list of all supported brands and models here.

If your inverter isn’t listed, please send us the brand and model via our contact form or chat - we’ll forward the info to our product team.

ā˜€ļø Can I connect my solar system or battery storage to the Ostrom app?

Yes! You can connect your inverter directly in the Ostrom app. See below how it works.

šŸ”— How do I connect my inverter with Ostrom?

Here’s how it works:

  1. Open the Ostrom app.

  2. On the home screen, go to the ā€œSolar Inverterā€ section.

  3. Select ā€œConnect inverter.ā€

  4. Log in through our partner Enode in the new window.

  5. Once you’re signed in, you’ll be redirected back to the Ostrom app.

A step-by-step guide is available [here].

šŸ“Š What information can I see in the app after connecting?

Once connected, you can view:

  • The current production rate of your solar system

  • The installation date

  • The total production since commissioning

You can filter your data by hour, day, or month. ā˜€ļø šŸ“†

The mobile Ostrom app interface displays real-time home energy flows from solar, grid, and battery alongside daily statistics showing solar production, consumption, and self-sufficiency.

šŸ” Does Ostrom offer solar systems?

Yes – in the Ostrom Store you’ll find balcony power plants and solar kits for self-installation.

🧠 What is Enode?

Enode is our technology partner that enables the connection between your inverter and the Ostrom app.

It ensures secure data transfer and stable communication between both systems.
