📅 Example timeline for your switch with the 24-hour process

You want to switch to Ostrom? 🎉 Welcome - we’re excited to have you!

Here’s how your switch will work from June 6th 2025 onward, based on the new legal 24-hour supplier switching procedure (§ 20a EnWG):

🔁 June 10 – You register with Ostrom

Simply sign up via our app or website. You just need your meter number and some details about your household.

📨 June 10 – We start the switching process

Depending on your situation:

  • If you’re moving in:
    We register you with the grid operator for your new address - delivery can start no earlier than the next day.

  • If you’re switching suppliers:
    We cancel your current contract (if possible) and request your registration with the grid operator.
    Both your old supplier and the grid operator have 24 hours each to respond to our request.

📬 June 10–11 – Waiting for confirmations

To complete your switch, we need:

  1. The cancellation confirmation from your current supplier
    (depending on your contract term and cancellation period)

  2. The grid operator’s confirmation for your delivery point registration

✅ June 11–12 – Contract confirmation and delivery start

As soon as we’ve received all confirmations and your details are complete, you’ll receive your contract confirmation via email - and Ostrom will start supplying your electricity from the confirmed start of supply ⚡🎉

  • New Move-In:
    If you sign up on 10.06. and all your information is complete, we’ll ideally start supplying you by 12.06 at the latest.

  • Switch from Another Supplier:
    If you sign up on 10.06. and everything goes smoothly, we’ll begin supplying you from the first working day after your confirmed cancellation with your current provider. Please note, the cancellation date must be in the future - a retroactive switch is not possible.

💡 Important

  • The delivery start date cannot be in the past. Retroactive registrations are no longer allowed since June 6, 2025.

  • The earliest delivery start date is 24 hours after your registration. I.e., the next business day.

  • For supplier switches, the actual delivery start depends on your current contract’s term and cancellation notice period.

👉 Our tip

Register with us at least 14 days before your desired start date. This gives enough time to cancel your old contract and ensures a smooth transition.
