📦 Elinor is moving – and wants to stay with Ostrom at her new address 🏡
Elinor is moving into her new apartment in Leipzig on July 1, 2025. She wants Ostrom to supply her with power right from day one and wants to cancel her Ostrom contract at her old address in Berlin.
👍 Here’s how everything goes smoothly

June 15 | Elinor reports her move through the Ostrom app – either via live chat or the contact form. |
June 15 | We notify the grid operator of her new address and request the registration – no need for an interim supplier. We also canceled her old meter at the move-out address. |
June 16 | The grid operator confirms the registration. Since all info is correct, we get the confirmation within 24 hours. |
July 1 | Elinor starts receiving power from Ostrom – right on time for her move-in. 🎉💚 |
👎 Here’s what happens if things don’t go as planned
Elinor only reports her move on July 2 – after she has already moved in. What now?
The grid operator cannot register her retroactively.
In the meantime, she’ll be automatically supplied by the default or fallback provider – usually at higher prices.
Her Ostrom contract can likely only start on July 16, because switching typically requires a 14-day legal cancellation period.
She might still be paying for the meter at her old address until July 3rd or until she officially cancels it.
✅ Our recommendation: Let us know about your move at least 14 days in advance to avoid any supply gaps or being charged by the default provider.
This applies to both existing and new customers.
If you're new to Ostrom and moving in:
Register as soon as you receive your meter number or the handover protocol from your landlord or property management. We can only register your move in date for future dates.
If you're new to Ostrom and switching providers:
Register as soon as you have the cancellation confirmation from your current provider. Best would be, if you let us handle the switch so we can cancel the current contract for you.
