What happens if there’s a supply gap before my Ostrom contract starts?

Will I still receive electricity if there’s a gap between suppliers?

Yes – you will always receive electricity.
In Germany, you can never be disconnected just because a contract ends or a supplier switch is in progress. This is protected by law.

🔌 What happens during this time?

If your old contract ends and your Ostrom start date is a few days later, you are automatically supplied through the replacement supply (“Ersatzversorgung”).
This is handled by your local basic supplier – the energy company that supplies most households in your grid area.

You do not need to take any action. Replacement supply starts automatically whenever no active electricity contract exists.

⏱️ How long does replacement supply last?

Replacement supply is valid for up to 3 months.
As soon as your Ostrom contract begins, replacement supply ends automatically.

💰 What does it cost?

Your basic supplier charges its own replacement-supply prices.
These prices may be higher than regular electricity tariffs.
Once your Ostrom contract starts, you’ll switch to our electricity-at-cost pricing.

📄 How do I know if I was in replacement supply?

You’ll typically receive from the basic supplier:

  • an information / welcome email, and

  • a final invoice covering the period of replacement supply.

🟢 What does Ostrom do during this time?

We make sure your supply starts as quickly as possible.
You can always see your start date in the Ostrom App.
