How does NeoGrid AI work with battery, PV, and EV charging?

Written by Rahel Kunkel

Currently, NeoGrid® for PV and battery storage and NeoGrid for EVs don't yet work together. That's why it's important to use the right charging logic for your setup.

When NeoGrid® AI is activated for your EV

If you've activated NeoGrid® AI for your EV, we charge your EV in a grid-friendly way. In this case, you should deactivate surplus charging in your system. This prevents multiple control logics from being active at the same time and interfering with each other.

If you're also using NeoGrid® AI for PV & battery, the following applies:

  • Your EV continues to be optimized directly on the electricity market.

  • We prevent your home storage from discharging during a scheduled grid charge.

  • If PV surplus is available, it can be used automatically for charging, depending on your household and setup.

  • For now, we don't yet actively adjust the charging rate to match the PV surplus.

When NeoGrid® AI is not activated for your EV

If your EV isn't part of NeoGrid® AI, its electricity consumption is treated as part of your normal household consumption.

This means:

  • your EV's consumption feeds into the household optimization

  • NeoGrid® AI accounts for this additional consumption in its battery and PV optimization

  • since we don't yet actively control the EV in this case, you should keep surplus charging enabled for your EV or wallbox if you want to charge with PV surplus

Should solar surplus charging be enabled?

NeoGrid® for EV

Surplus setting

Activated

Solar surplus charging should be deactivated.

Not activated

Solar surplus charging can stay enabled if you want to charge your vehicle specifically with PV surplus.

Why does this distinction matter?

Your battery, PV system, and EV all draw on the same energy flows in your household. For control to work reliably, ideally only one active logic should be used for EV charging.

This helps you avoid:

  • conflicting charging commands

  • unclear energy flows

  • behavior that's hard to trace

In summary:

NeoGrid® AI for EV is activated:

  • the EV is controlled via NeoGrid® AI and charged from the grid

  • solar surplus charging should be deactivated

NeoGrid® AI for EV is not activated:

  • the EV's consumption counts toward household consumption

  • NeoGrid® accounts for this consumption in its optimization

  • solar surplus charging can be used separately
